Arrival in Reykjavík
I’m writing this at about 2 am in the morning from a hotel bed in mid Reyjkavik.
Anders and I didn’t get much sleep the past two days, as we traveled from Aalborg (Denmark), starting Saturday night, arriving today, Sunday afternoon, in Iceland at the Keflavik airport, to work as trainees for a company called EJS for the next two weeks.
We took a “FlyBus” from the airport to Reykjavik after we got our luggage.
A 30 minute tour with a display of almost nothing but a desolate and flat landscape, filled with black rocks, boulder and dirt covered with moss. It was also a rainy day in Iceland, so our first-hand look at the Icelandic nature weren’t that exiting, to be honest
We were picked up by Guðmundur, our employer for the next couple of weeks, at the Reykjavik bus station.
He arrived in a big monstrous four-wheeler with enormous tires and greeted us with a big convincing smile on his face.
He drove us to the hostel we’re staying in, to drop of our stuff so he could give us a tour around town.
We went back to Guðmundurs truck. He started the engine, went across the foot walk, dodged a few cars and rushed around the nearest corner into a neighborhood nearby, filled with shops and fast-food restaurants on every corner.
It’s really quite amazing to see how a country like Iceland can posses so much wealth, economy and be this commercialized, despite its geographically remote location and its moderate size. Just by spending a couple of hours in Reykjavik, you can really understand why people with a passion for the capital city life, simply love this place. Pictures will follow…
When Guðmundur dropped us of, we did some shopping to get something in the fridge. We later went to a Subway for some easy dinner and then went straight back to our hostel.
Our 1 man flat with an extra bed has an internet connection and a television for entertainment, which is pretty neat. Though, the manager told us that they don’t clean very often during the winter season, so it’s a little dirty in the corners.
Otherwise we’re pretty much happy with the place. We’ve already made some friends on the roof outside our window and the beds a big and comfy.
I guess I need some more sleep before my first day of work tomorrow and I’ll post more stories in here later.
Best regards,
Bwyan
